SU Tucker Added to Maxwell Price Watch List
SYRACUSE – Syracuse star running back Sean Tucker is one of 10 midseason additions to Maxwell’s price watch list.
The Maxwell Award honors the best college football player and has been awarded annually since 1937. It is named in honor of Robert “Tiny” Maxwell, a distinguished former Swarthmore College and renowned sports writer and football official.
Tucker is the first Orange player to be on the award watch list since Eric Dungey won preseason accolades in 2018. Don McPherson won the award for Syracuse in 1987.
The preseason watchlist included 80 players in total. Tucker, Kenneth Walker of Michigan State, Blake Corum of Michigan and TreVeyon Henderson of Ohio State are the four added backers. Quarterbacks Bryce Young (Alabama), Sean Clifford (Penn State), Sam Hartman (Wake Forest), Bailey Zappe (WKU), Tanner Mordecai (SMU) and Jake Haener (Fresno State) are the other six additions, wearing the total to 90.
In five games this season, Tucker has the third most yards by Syracuse at 638. Only Joe Morris (729; 1979) and Walter Reyes (721; 2003) have more in the first five games of the season.
He enters Saturday’s game against Wake Forest ranked among the top-five in the nation for rushing yards (third), all-purpose yards (third) and rushing yards per game (fourth). In addition, his eight total touchdowns are ranked 15th nationally.
The Maxwell Prize semi-finalists will be announced on November 1, while the three Maxwell Prize finalists will be announced on November 22. The winners of the 2021 Maxwell and Bednarik Awards will be announced at the ESPN Home Depot College Football Awards Show. which will take place on December 9. Formal presentations of the Maxwell Award will be made at the Maxwell Football Club Awards Gala hosted by Tropicana Hotel & Casino Atlantic City on March 11, 2022.
