Ragi modak wins the award for the best national millet recipe

Ragi modak, salad and soft pongal made of millets are the top three recipes that won the national millet recipe competition organized by the Union Ministry of Agriculture ahead of the International Year of Millet 2023.

The recipe for ragi modak by student chefs Shalini Raj Soni and Om Shantani from the Institute of Hotel Management (Delhi) won first prize.

The recipe for the salad consisting of three millets (bajra, jowar and foxmillets) in tricolor tones by Anubhav Nautiyal and Saksham Kaushal, students from the Chitkara School of Hospitality (Punjab), won second prize.

The recipe for sweet pongal based on millets by Hiranmoy Chalita and Hansika Jandhayala, students of the Indian Culinary Institute (Nodia), won third prize in the national recipe competition.

Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar presented Delhi Haat with awards here at the launch of the three-day “millet culinary carnival”.

Nicknamed as poor man’s foodmillets are superfoods and the government promotes them widely to ensure nutritional security.

In view of the International Year of Millet 2023, the ministry is organizing several programs to promote the production and millet consumption in India and around the world.
