Kids at the Bowling Green Hotel wake up with gifts on Christmas Day
BOWLING GREEN, Ky. (WBKO) – On Saturday morning, kids at a Bowling Green hotel woke up with a huge surprise!
With a devastating tornado that devastated Bowling Green two weeks ago and an ongoing pandemic. A woman and the management team at TRU by Hilton in Bowling Green wanted the children and their families displaced by the tornado to have a somewhat normal Christmas.
“Everyone deserves a little Christmas cheer,” says McKenzi Halcomb, who helped assemble blessing bags with toys for the hotel’s kids.
“I couldn’t imagine seeing a little boy waking up on Christmas morning and not having Christmas,” says Leigh Ann Harp. “I had met a little boy in my hall. And I heard the conversation between him and his mom about how they lost everything they had including their personal items, their homes and everything and it broke my heart.
So Leigh Ann took to social media, and she quickly teamed up with McKenzi Halcomb, who was already making blessing bags out of children’s toys, to make kids smile on Christmas morning.
“We helped organize all the freebies and the hotel staff had already organized a lot for us, and we have been coming over the last few days and dropped off items and put them together for everyone. So they would have lots of things to do and play with, and even some parenting stuff, ”adds Halcomb.
Those who helped make Christmas for children and their parents a success are simply grateful.
“It’s been such a rewarding experience to see their little faces and they dig into stuff and they’re so excited. And so I mean, the outpouring of love was really, really seen on the faces of these kids this morning, ”said Halcomb.
“It’s just amazing, a great blessing. There really are no words to explain it, how Bowling Green came together and made it possible for them, ”said Leigh Ann of the outpouring of support from the community.
She also says the remaining toys will be donated to local daycares.
