The long awaited Ace Hotel Sydney’s has opened, marking the American hotel chain’s first venture south of the equator.

Housed in the historic Tyne House brick factory in Surry Hill, Ace Sydney 264 rooms designed by Flack Studio, was completed in 2021. The restaurant and lobby bar followed, as the hotel welcomes its first guests, and rooftop restaurant Kiln, designed by Fiona Lynch Office, will debut later in 2022.

The downstairs restaurant, Loam, is the sibling of its downtown Los Angeles hotel and restaurant. The name comes from the word for the perfect cocktail for fertile soil: part sand, part silt and part clay. The color scheme is equally earthy, with Flack Studio basing its palette on yellow ochre, raw umber, burnt sienna and the moss green of the Australian landscape.

Flack Studio featured the works of contemporary Australian artists including Tony Albert, Nadia Hernandez, Ramesh Mario Nithiyendran.

The scheme is textured, warm, organic, with amber lighting, raw wood, and a red marble staircase that stretches from the lobby to the first level. Flack Studio showcased the bold and brash works of contemporary Australian artists, including Tony Albert, Nadia Hernandez, Ramesh Mario Nithiyendran and many more, to create intriguing moments throughout the ground floor space.

“We wanted to preserve the creative, slightly renegade energy of the space from its origins as one of Australia’s first brickyards,” said David Flack, founder and director of the studio. The design acknowledges the lineage of the site’s pottery and ceramic creation both directly and more subversively.

Ace Hotel occupies the site of Australia’s first kiln find, where convict potter Jonathan Leak produced works as early as the 1820s. This legacy is detectable in the remaining brick structures erected to house the factory in 1916 and the Playful painted brick mosaic at the lobby entrance.

A playful collage of bricks pays homage to the site's long history of pottery and ceramic creation.

Inspired by the site’s ‘rogue’ history, the design evokes connotations of the imagined space of the West. Rawhide lampshades emit a textured glow and the crinkled leather cabin seat plays with the romantic associations of a Western living room. An epiphytic deer horn is playfully mounted on the brick wall where one would expect a stuffed deer head – perhaps a nod to Loam’s vegetable menu.

Echoes of 1970s Australian suburbia reverberate through the sunken living room and Robin Boyd inspiration Australian ugliness are detectable in the uniquely Australian decorative experience. “We were committed to creating a warm space that brought together Australia’s cultural history with Ace’s unique, community-based approach to hospitality,” Flack said.

Just in time for the summer season, the historic Pridwin Hotel and Cottages will reopen to guests from June after a two-year pandemic-induced closure and a $28 million upgrade.

The New York Post reports that Shelter Island’s largest hotel will be up and running by June 17 with an all-new look for its 49 rooms and 16 private cottages sitting on 7 acres on Crescent Beach.

The upgrades retain the structure’s original bones and some of its light fixtures, including three chandeliers salvaged from the 1927 dining room that were restored and moved to the upper lobby, which now features a more modern motif.

The hotel was purchased by Curtis Bashaw’s Cape Resorts in 2021 after working with the Petry family, who have owned and operated the hotel since 1961, on its redevelopment since 2019, according to the Shelter Island Reporter. The Petry family is still part of the team that operates the hotel.

In October last year, Fort Amsterdam Capital, in partnership with Tilden Park Capital Management, took out a $17.4 million first mortgage to pay for the renovation.

Cape Resorts also owns the Barron’s Cove resort in Sag Harbor, as well as numerous inns in Cape May, New Jersey, including Congress Hall and the Virginia Hotel.

Shelter Island sits between the North and South Forks of Long Island and is accessible by ferry from both sides.

The Pridwin isn’t the first classic hotel in the area to get an influx of cash and a new look. A number of investors have recently bought and upgraded North Fork hotels, including the Sound View Hotel, Harbor Front Inn and Menhaden Hotel in Greenport, as the largely agricultural area looks more like its upscale counterpart South.

Last month, the kitschy 1950s Silver Sands Motel, also in Greenport, was sold to Silver Sands Holdings I, an LLC that promises to invest $4 million to modernize the hotel while retaining its old-school charm. .

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. — It’s been years in the making, but the finish line is just weeks away for the new Hampton Inn & Suites in South Lake Tahoe. Finishing touches are being made to the property’s 120 rooms and suites, indoor pool, restaurant, lobby bar with six beers and wines on tap, and landscaping.

It’s not your typical Hampton Inn with custom features throughout, including chandeliers, solar panels, and energy efficiency. Ski lockers will have boot and glove warmers, and the property has a fire pit, hot tub, outdoor heaters and bike storage.

Owner

and his companies Mountain West Buildings and Laxmi Hotels, have been planning the hotel since he purchased the three buildings that made up the former Super 8 Motel on Lake Tahoe Boulevard 20 years ago. He was waiting for it to “write itself” and the weather seemed perfect now. His brother and sister ran the Super 8 until it was demolished in 2020 to make way for the new property, four stories and nearly 80,000 square feet.

Patel is no stranger to South Lake Tahoe. In fact, he grew up just down the street from where his dad owned The Sun & Ski Motel (where Day’s Inn is now). He graduated from South Tahoe High School in 1995, and since earning a college degree in business administration from Cal State Sacramento, he has worked in Reno building multifamily housing and owns two Hampton Inn motels and a Home2Suites there. .

The Hampton Inn & Suites is adding a new Truckee-based restaurant, Burger Me, which will offer alfresco dining as well as indoors.

Patel has bought some old skis which will be part of the decoration of the hotel. All rooms will have microwaves and refrigerators, and some one bedroom suites which are not normal with the Hampton brand.

A sign of the future are the 12 on-site EV chargers for customers driving electric cars, seven for Teslas, and five standard chargers with underground conduit for future chargers. The property also contributes to the clarity of the lake with a $1.5M water retention system under the parking lot.

The new Hampton has a bus stop across the street and will carry bikes with the hotel logo so guests don’t have to get into their cars once they arrive.

To stay under the required maximum height of 59.5 feet, the ceiling height is 8.5 feet, instead of the normal 9 feet, but for the normal person this will not be noticed. The open lobby is large with high ceilings with chandeliers, and will soon be full of high-end furniture.

As with anyone looking for supplies, supply chain issues have also affected the property and they have been waiting weeks for all the furniture to arrive. This pushed back their opening date which was originally scheduled to be Memorial Day and will be open by July 1.

Patel said they are bringing a much-needed high-end lodging property to South Lake Tahoe, and their rates will be in the range of $400 high season, $200 low season. He said it’s nearly complete and they’ve already worked to get the property up and running. He tapped an Incline High School graduate, Aaron Ponce, to be the hotel’s general manager.

The Travellers’ Choice Best of the Best awards consider the quality and quantity of traveler reviews and ratings and divide them into several sub-categories. A team of servers, performing a sort of silent waltz on the main restaurant floor, deliver food and drinks to well-spaced tables with minimal fuss and plenty of charm.

Chefs prepare dishes like the popular Steak Diane right on the tables, there’s a full vegan offering, and those who can’t choose between the myriad wine and food options can select from the five-course tasting menu, available with an additional wine pairing.

While there is no shortage of equally impressive restaurants dotted around Johannesburg – where the concierge is happy to arrange reservations and transfers – dining at Qunu is an experience in itself, but one that fully complements all other facets of the Saxon.

There is also the option of dining on the terrace, which has a different menu from Qunu and offers a more subdued affair.

Meals or aperitifs are served to the sound of the soft chirping of birds from the northern suburbs of Johannesburg, perched in the towering trees of the estate. Plan your visit to the terrace on a weekday morning or afternoon, and it’s a reward in itself to consider that you’re only a few hundred yards from Sandton’s increasing rush-hour traffic – but tucked away in the definition of luxurious tranquility.

St. Regis Aspen

The lavish St. Regis has a devoted following of loyal Aspen goers, and for good reason. And if you have to leave the hotel, just book the complimentary in-house St. Regis BMW X7 for the fun. The hotel, which will host a few Food & Wine Classic seminars this year, has always focused on food, since it is home to the Chefs Club by Food & Wine, a restaurant that changes chefs twice a year. There’s also the more formal Velvet Buck restaurant, as well as the Mountain Social Bar and Lounge, which offers live music and cocktails. “God was watching over me.”

Inside the Mark Hotel on Monday afternoon, dreams were coming true for at least one person stationed in the lobby: Jack Harlow, dressed in Givenchy and awaiting his official departure from the Met Gala, had obliged a fan’s request to a selfie.

“I have no expectations,” the rapper said, of what the evening might have in store, as he flashed a smile at the adoring fans’ plea.

The room swelled to critical mass, swelled by the team of HMUA, stylists, publicists and designers – and a few party breakers – who help make the magic of the Met Gala a reality. Outside the hotel, swarms of people had gathered behind metal barricades as traffic leading to 70s on Madison moved slowly, led by the siren call of flashing red and blue lights from above down the avenue.

The Met Gala was back to its usual first Monday in May slot, and the “Gilded Age” glamor – often very loosely channeled – was on full display at The Mark, one of the main VIP prep venues.

The Louis Vuitton team – which included Emma Stone, Eileen Gu and Sophie and Joe Jonas – were the first to leave around 4pm, hitting a pre-event before heading to the Met. They were soon followed by Anna Wintour and her family; after a brief hug, Bee Carrozzini led her mother at the head of the pack as they passed through the hotel doors and past the line of photographers flanking the carpet in front of the hotel.

Shortly after 5 p.m., Valentino’s Pierpaolo Piccioli sped past followed by Pat McGrath, and Bella Hadid’s bodyguard appeared in the lobby soon after. A flash of hot pink began rolling down the stairs, promising a dramatic look, but it was a false alarm – Nicola Peltz and her new husband Brooklyn Beckham turned and headed back upstairs.

Tommy Dorfman greeted attention as she posed for the lobby audience. “Hi everyone!”

Jordan Roth carefully walked down the stairs in his chunky Thom Browne look – a blacker version of what he modeled at the designer’s show on Friday. “Thank you all for breaking up,” Roth said as he walked past.

Janelle Monáe, shimmering in a figure-hugging Ralph Lauren sequined look, posed for photographers in the lobby, workshoping some sculptural poses which she then repeated on the steps of the Met.

“Can we have a drink?” A scotch on the rocks,” Anderson Paak said, smiling and growling into Gucci as he entered the lobby.

Nicola Coughlan sipped a glass of champagne as she waited her turn to leave, while her hairdresser did her final touches. The ‘Bridgerton’ actress gifted a loose feather from her Richard Quinn dress to a passing fan. “It’s a memory,” she said.

“Hey, there are people here,” exclaimed Sabrina Carpenter as the elevator doors opened and she emerged in her gold sequined two-piece. She gave Harlow a playful punch on the shoulder as she sneaked past. “Hey killer,” she said.

The Chloé team – Amy Schumer, designer Gabriela Hearst, Venus Williams and activist Xiye Bastida – made their way as the entourage, all wearing black sunglasses; Other designer pairs include Phoebe Bridgers with Jonathan Simkhai, Rosalía with Matthew Williams, and NCT rapper Johnny Suh with designer Peter Do, who also dressed Eva Chen for her Met Gala debut.

“You look amazing,” Suh told Theophilio designer Edvin Thompson, who was decked out in nearby Thom Browne; Thompson returned the compliment on the fly.

Thompson had accessorized with one of Thom Browne’s dog bags (“this was made for my phone,” he said, demonstrating that the bag was more than just for show). Gunna showed off her sequined and tuxedo version of the bag. It’s all in the details – “gu-tails,” the rapper said.

The lobby was packed with celebrities waiting their turn to leave, though not all of them were happy to hang out and mingle. “I don’t want to stay here,” said Bella Hadid, leading her team to the side of the center of the room after finding out there was a line.

Peltz and Beckham reappeared, finally ready to make their grand exit, while Oscar de la Renta designers Laura Kim and Fernando Garcia walked down the hall in the opposite direction just before 7 p.m. They reappeared soon after with Ivy Getty.

Each time the mirrored elevator doors opened, the crowd directed their attention to find out who would appear next: the Moschino team, Lily James, Chloe Bailey.

Dwyane Wade backed out of the elevator bank in a white, shirtless suit, cane in hand, and held out his hand to his wife Gabrielle Union. “I feel great. Ready. She’s ready,” Wade said, admiring the giant red floral appliqué on Union’s Versace gown.

Ready, Set, Go: With that, the crowd was off to the main event.

Jake “The Snake” Roberts Opens Up About His Racist Promo At AAA From The Past Event https://bw-donningtonmanor.co.uk/jake-the-snake-roberts-opens-up-about-his-racist-promo-at-aaa-from-the-past-event/ Sun, 01 May 2022 13:38:25 +0000 https://bw-donningtonmanor.co.uk/jake-the-snake-roberts-opens-up-about-his-racist-promo-at-aaa-from-the-past-event/ AEW’s Jake Roberts was a recent guest on Talk Is Jericho where he reflected on his experience working with AAA. AEW’s Jake Roberts was a recent guest on Talk Is Jericho where he reflected on his experience working with AAA. This led him to once do a promo to promote an upcoming show, where he decided to dig Mexicans.

“They send me to a TV station to do promos, I did the promos”, he said. “At that time you could still have a little fun on the mic without doing something politically incorrect. Because I’m not racist at all, I like everyone, no matter what color. I can’t see color, guess I’m colorblind, I don’t like that shit, man. I have more in my life than that, I can’t stand people who are like that.

“I went and did the press thing and was having fun, I asked the answer, ‘do you know the reason why they’re having the Olympics in Atlanta and not Mexico?’ “No, why, I said, because anyone who can run, jump or swim is already there. They didn’t like it, so I sang a song called ‘The Frito Bandito’. They thought it was bad too, so they stopped that song, they didn’t like that one, and there might have been some other little digs, I didn’t think it was really serious.

Although Jake Roberts didn’t think the situation was serious, he quickly learned that it wasn’t. When the Hall Of Famer visited the hotel, he discovered fans were trying to track him down. It was because they were so offended that they wanted to kill him.

“They took me back to my hotel, it was live. As I walked into the hotel lobby, there was a bar at that time. I stopped, looked up, and there was a television that was in Spanish, and something caught my eye. What caught my attention was these Mexicans who got sprayed with a water cannon,” he said. “Wow it’s serious bro.

“I tell the bartender, ‘shit, man, they’re going to kill these people.’ He says, ‘Yeah, Amigo, you do that.’ ‘I did that, didn’t I do shit?’ ‘Yeah, they’re looking for you mom,’ I said, ‘what?’ He said, ‘they’re trying to find you, they want to slit your fucking throat,’ I said, ‘can I buy a beer?'”

Jake Roberts then recalled wrestling for AAA in Los Angeles. It ended with him and DDP being bombarded with drums and beers as the fans hated them. When they got to the back, Roberts was so hot he destroyed the locker room.

“We did the thing in LA and we had a really hard time, Dallas and I,” he said. “We walk out of the ring and they’re unloading on us, there was no protection. They absolutely got away from us, we were taking heavy shit. The batteries were hurting, they were bombarding us with horrible shit, it didn’t It’s not fun to pee or drink hot beer. A cold one is fine.

“They were closing in on us, some of them were shooting. Basically we fought to come back. Well, I had asked for security before going out. Since there were none, I went straight to the head of the locker room. I was pissed off man, back then I wasn’t very good at controlling myself because I was pumped up with pharmaceuticals and stuff. I grabbed it and threw it a bit and half destroyed the locker room.
