A glimpse of the new Scarlet Hotel
LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN) — Construction of the estimated $35 million Scarlet Hotel on the Nebraska Innovation Campus is nearing completion. People can start staying at the highly anticipated hotel by April 21.
The Scarlet Hotel is considered a “soft brand” Marriott. This is a boutique hotel operated by Marriott. Trish Bauermeister is The Scarlet’s Director of Sales and Marketing.
“We have all the luxuries of a Marriott, but we also have the ability to build character and what we set out to do is celebrate Nebraska,” Bauermeister said.
During a preview tour of the hotel, we discovered that from the rooms to the food, The Scarlet aims to provide a unique experience. On the walls you will find artwork that reflects Nebraska. The hotel offers a large fitness center, and the lobby itself is one place visitors will want to linger.
“Our cafe is called the Good Life Coffee Shop, and it’s open to the public like all of our outlets,” Bauermeister said. And they’ll be serving a special blend from The Mill Coffee called The Scarlet.
There are also a number of other gathering places that people will enjoy.
“We have a rooftop bar, called the Barred Owl,” Bauermeister said. “We have an indoor section as well as the outdoor patio, so when the weather is nice and sunny outside, we can open up the wall.”
The rooftop bar is one of the many spaces people will be able to reserve for special events. The Scarlet’s dining room will feature dishes Nebraskans will love, like their version of the Reuben sandwich and a homemade Runza. They will have Dairy Store ice cream. And the more than 150 rooms are all named after cities in Nebraska.
“They will see a sign with the name of the city, personalized city artwork, as well as the history of the city,” Bauermeister said.
Although it is a private hotel, UNL faculty members in the hotel, restaurant and tourism management program are excited about the opportunities it will provide.
“We’ve had a great program, we’ve had great teachers, amazing students who go out and do amazing things, but we’ve never had the house per se,” said Ajai Ammachathram, UNL program director for hotels, restaurants and tourism. Management.
The hotel will provide this house, eventually. UNL is working to raise approximately $5 million to complete the space south of the lobby.
Kristin Malek, assistant professor for the hotel, restaurant and tourism management program at UNL, said: “They (students) will take their courses here, the faculty offices will be here, they will be able to do internships here, they can work here full-time or part-time. full-time employees (for The Scarlet).
Professors say the hotel will also help recruit students for the hospitality program.
“This hotel can also be a base for the University, where we bring in potential students and faculty, we can bring in staff, we can bring in keynote speakers, renowned professionals who come for any program,” Malek said. .
Hotel officials say this property will be open to the general public on April 14, when guests can pop in for coffee and food and enjoy the atmosphere. You can start staying at the hotel on April 21. The goal is to have the classroom space ready next summer. Some graduates of UNL’s hotel, restaurant and tourism management program are already working for the hotel.
